Lille Metro continues to rely on Ruf’s VisiWeb passenger information system for the expansion of its BOA fleet. The 15 additional vehicles on order will also be equipped with VisiWeb as an information and communication system for passenger comfort and safety.
Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL) has ordered 15 additional Alstom Metropolis BOA vehicles for Lille Metro. Like the 27 vehicles of the first series, which are being progressively introduced into service, the additional vehicles will also be equipped with Ruf’s VisiWeb passenger information system. In this way, MEL is consistently advancing the modernisation of its metro fleet and continuing to rely on Ruf’s proven system solution.
Ruf was already commissioned as system supplier for the first series of BOA vehicles for Lille Metro. The renewed equipment of the additionally ordered vehicles confirms the long-term collaboration and the continuity of the selected passenger information solution.
Since February 2026, the first five BOA vehicles have been operating in passenger service on Line 1. They use “Urbalis Fluence”, Alstom’s digital autopilot. The system controls and supervises driverless operation, enabling the vehicles to run safely, regularly and at short headways. The new BOA vehicles will also be progressively integrated into this automatic operation.

Ruf’s VisiWeb information and communication system
A reliable information and communication system is essential for passenger comfort and safety, particularly in driverless operation. This function is provided by the Ruf Group’s digital VisiWeb information and communication system.
Each car is equipped with six VisiWeb passenger intercom stations, positioned at easily accessible locations near the doors. They enable direct full-duplex communication in high voice quality between passengers and the control centre. In addition, the control centre can use the microphones to pick up sounds inside the car and, together with the video images, better assess the safety situation.
A further information function is provided by the VisiWeb Audio Hub. This digital audio unit controls six loudspeakers per car and ensures the playback of station announcements in hi-fi quality.
