Final technical approval
The final technical approval by CAF Brasil and the end customer CPTM took place last week and the authorisation to put the vehicles into productive operation was granted. This means that the project, which started in 2021, has now been successfully completed despite some hurdles and restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic..

Functional enhancements
In total, the VisiWeb passenger information system, developed and manufactured by the Swiss ICT company Ruf was comprehensively functionally expanded and modernised in 35 eight-car vehicles of the Spanish railway manufacturer CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles).

Higher safety and better efficiency
The vehicles operate on the suburban railway lines of São Paulo’s local transport system. VisiWeb provides the operator CPTM with many new functions that not only increase passenger safety and comfort, but also enable efficient operation of the metro trains in the vibrant city of São Paulo.

The upgraded and enhanced VisiWeb system comes up with new functions:

  • VisiWeb – Control Panel OPU, with touchscreen

Display of the station cameras in the driver’s cab
The video streams of the station cameras are displayed in both driver’s cabs on the VisiWeb operator panel. This provides an overview of the situation on the platforms in all directions.

  • Redundant communication
In addition to the existing train radio, a second, redundant communication channel has been set up, which functions entirely via the VisiWeb system.
  • Remote video surveillance out of the vehicles
In addition to video surveillance and image storage in the vehicles themselves, the control centre is able to view the live streams from the cameras in the vehicle interiors via remote access.
  • Multimedia streaming into the vehicles
In the opposite direction, VisiWeb controls the reception of live information and video streams. Current information from the control centre or even advertisements are displayed on the monitors in the passenger compartments.
  • Future built in
VisiWeb offers potential for additional functions. As a central data hub, information about the vehicle data, the status of the overall system and its components as well as the GPS location can be transmitted to the control centre in real time via telemetry.
